OUR CHARITY OF THE YEAR

We are proud to announce that The British Heart Foundation is our Charity of the Year. From the 1st July 2018 Extravaganza will be supporting, raising money and awareness for this charity within the local Leicestershire area. Extravaganza will be getting invovled in various charity events which will aslo be share don their social media accounts.

ABOUT THE CHARITY

The British Heart Foundation fund the brightest and best research into heart and circulatory disease. This could be a PhD student at a well-known University or a collaboration between a top BHF Professor and a lesser known Institute. By helping fund the BHF, we can help scientists undertake pioneering research into many different heart conditions, their diagnosis and treatment.

For over 50 years the BHF’s pioneering research has helped half the death rates from cardiovascular disease. However, cardiovascular disease still kills more than one in four people in the UK.

Below are some of the key statistics as to why the BHF are an important charity to help fund:

Heart and circulatory disease can cause more than a quarter (26 per cent) of all deaths in the UK; that’s nearly 160,000 deaths each year – giving an average of 435 people each day or one death every three minutes.
There are around 7 million people living with heart and circulatory disease in the UK: 3.5 million men and 3.5 million women.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of cardiovascular disease.
Coronary heart disease is the most common cause of heart attack. In the UK there are 188,000 hospital visits each year due to heart attacks: that's one every three minutes.
An estimated 915,000 people alive in the UK today (640,000 men and 275,000 women) have survived a heart attack.
Over half a million people in the UK are living with heart failure.
There are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. The overall survival rate in the UK is less than 1 in 10

WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING

As well as being involved in learning about how the heart works and completeing our BHF training in CPR. We have also be getting involved in monthly charity work in and out of work time to help raise money for this cause. We have also been visiting local supermarkets around Leicester to help raise money too, such as Thurmaston Asda.
